Kingston’s School Street initiative launched on September 7th, 2021. The School Street operates outside of Winston Churchill Public School, which is located in the neighbourhood of Alwington, just west of Kingston’s downtown core and nearby Queen’s University.
The initiative runs twice every school day, closing a section of street adjacent to the school to vehicular traffic around children’s arrival and departure times, for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon. Implemented by the Kingston Coalition for Active Transportation, the initiative is also supported by Kingston Gets Active, a pool of highly committed resident, parent, and Queen's student volunteers.
